Some of you would have noticed the Xero navigation bar has recently updated to enhance better and simpler user experience. This has been done after extensive research and testing with Xero users, including accountants, bookkeepers and small business owners.

Whether you are just the Xero beginner or Xero expert, the new navigation will help you complete your daily tasks much more efficient.

Let’s take a look at what have been changed…

There are few things have moved and there are some new headings.

At the left-hand side is the organisation menu, includes the file library, settings, and links to apps that connect with Xero. Dashboard, payroll, projects and contacts are still here.

New Business and Accounting menus
Tasks have been regrouped and assigned to different drop down menu.

Business menu
It contains the tasks that most small businesses complete on a regular basis. For example, quoting, invoicing, bills, purchase orders and expense claims.
Inventory has now renamed as ‘Product and services’ to better describe the information people record here.

Accounting menu
It contains accounting tasks, including bank accounts, reports and advanced tools and settings such as chart of accounts, find and recode, and manual journals.

Financial settings, chart of accounts and tax rates are now in Advanced accountings.

Want to find the tools you use most often? – set them up as Favourites

  • Create a favourite report: click the star on report within Reports. It will appear in the reports list on the dropdown menu.
  • Create a favourite advanced feature or setting: click the star on the item within Advanced accounting or reporting and it will appear in the Advanced List.

All organisation information is now in one place

The organisation menu is now located at the top left of the navigation bar. You could easily switch to different organisation which you have access to.

Files and settings have now moved under the organisation menu to keep everything related to an organisation in one place.

Under Do more with Xero, organisation will be able to connect to third party apps in the app marketplace.

Search shortcuts will save your time

To get to areas of Xero even faster, click the forward slash (/) and the search box will open. Then type a single letter to get to popular tasks. For instance ‘i’ lets you access all invoices and ‘b’ leads to all bills. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

a = bank accounts
b = bills
c = contacts
d = dashboard
e = employees
i = invoices
p = purchase orders
q = quotes
r = reports
